Gaynes School Celebrates TfL STARS Gold Award

Gaynes School has proudly achieved the TfL STARS Gold Award, recognising the school as a leading example of sustainable travel and active travel education.

The Gold Award celebrates schools that demonstrate a sustained commitment to making a positive difference. Over a three-year period, Gaynes School delivered 25 activities, 15 supporting activities and eight consultations, helping students, staff and the wider school community make more sustainable travel choices. The school has also made significant progress in reducing car use and encouraging sustainable methods of travelling to and from school.

A key part of this success has been the enthusiasm and leadership of our students. Year 8 students formed our TfL Pioneers, taking an active role in promoting sustainable travel and encouraging their peers to think differently about how they travel. Their commitment, creativity and enthusiasm helped bring the programme to life across the school.

We were also particularly proud to see two Year 10 students develop their leadership skills by taking the lead in delivering activities. Their involvement demonstrated the importance of giving students opportunities to take responsibility, inspire others and become positive role models within their school community.

The TfL STARS Gold Award recognises that Gaynes School is not simply participating in sustainable travel initiatives – our students and staff are leading the way. Through our ongoing work, we are helping to create a healthier, safer and more sustainable school environment while making a meaningful contribution to our local community.
