National Ballroom Dancing Champions

Gaynes School students and sisters Sophie and Mary Greenwood recently took part in the ISTD National Ballroom Dancing Grand Finals at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

This was year seven student Sophie’s third time dancing at the Grand Finals. The furthest she has ever got before is the Latin semi-final, this year she reached both finals! Sophie got 1st place in Ballroom dancing a stunning Quickstep. She then went on the achieve 2nd place in Latin dancing Samba. 

Year eleven student Mary has danced at six Grand Finals. Two years ago she reached the finals of Ballroom and Latin, earning a 6th place trophy in each event. This year she improved on this result. Mary achieved 1st place in Ballroom with an elegant Quickstep and 2nd place in Latin dancing the Cha Cha Cha.
