First Give Charity: Havering Mind

Back
July 4th 2024

This year, the whole of year 9 will be taking part in an event for First Give with the winning class giving £1000 to the charity that they have chosen altogether in their past few Religious education lessons.

For this event, we will be creating a presentation to talk about in front of the judges in order to win the £1000.

The charity we (Form 9Y) have chosen is Havering Mind. Havering Mind is a charity that offers assistance to those who may be having trouble that is causing them mental problems like anxiety or depression. They help people of all ages get over their problems and keep all information, unless it is serious, confidential. Havering Mind’s mission is to provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They provide services, raise awareness and promote understanding about mental health.

What services do they provide?

Havering Mind provides people with courses that are several weeks long. These courses are offered to everyone who joins and they are all free. There are multiple different courses which each provide assistance with a different problem people might be experiencing. Examples of these courses are “Mums matter” and “social inclusion”.

How to get involved

If you want to get involved in this amazing charity, there are several ways you can do this. The first way you could get involved is by donating money. Havering Mind doesn’t charge anything for their courses so it can be very useful if they can use donated money to put into events that members can take part in.

The second way you can get involved with this charity and is by taking part in fundraising events like how we are taking part in First Give to try to win money to donate to the charity.

The final way to get involved is to volunteer. Even though you won't get paid, you will still be able to gain precious experience for the future
