Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge
BackEach year, approximately 30,000 Year 10 pupils all around London and the South East take part in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge.
Sixty of our Year 10’s spent a day working with two public speaking facilitators that coached the pupils on how to construct an interesting, well-structured and well delivered three minute speech on a subject that matters to them and that has a positive message.
At the end of the workshop all the pupils delivered their speech and eight pupils were selected to go forward into an assembly final.
The final took place on Friday 22nd with the Chair of Governors David Lowe and Headteacher Mrs Kirkpatrick as Head Judges of a panel made up of students and teachers. All the pupils delivered a fantastic speech that had been improved upon since the work shop and it was very difficult to decide the overall winner from such a strong group of contenders. For her speech “The Sound of Sexism”, Beth Vincent was announced the winner and will go on to represent Gaynes School in the regional final on the 2nd May at Frances Bardsley School.
